The Buffalo West Side Environmental Defense Fund will be hosting “It’s a Matter of Life and Breath” a continuing informational series at 7 PM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church, 875 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo 14222. The forum is free and open to the public (please enter the Church on Lafayette Avenue entrance).

The Defense Fund will begin the forum with a presentation by residents of the Columbus Park Association who have studied the impact from commercial trucks crossing at the Peace Bridge Plaza for over 20 years. After screening a short film, Dr. Jamson Lwebuga Mukasa, Pulmonologist, Epidemiologist and Scientist will host an inter-active lecture on the relationship between diesel exhaust and the developing lungs of children. Dr. Mukasa will demonstrate how diesel exhaust is carried deep into the community by the SW winds blowing off of Lake Erie.

Other points of discussion will include the recent announcement by the PBA to expand its trucking complex by taking Busti Avenue and demolishing the historic Episcopal Church Home and why elected officials including Mayor Brown and Governor Cuomo are supporting the expanded truck plaza.
