The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and the Fed. Highway Administration (FHWA), held a public hearing on June 11th at D’Youville College about a potential ramp on Porter Avenue for truck traffic entering the Peace Bridge. The public hearing was one of many steps that the DOT is taking to make sure that the public, especially West Side residents, are aware of the potential project.
Unfortunately, there were many residents who did not know about the meeting, and many who are still unaware of the project because the Dept. of Transportation did not do the amount of notification that residents deserve. Informing the neighborhood is hard work, and it is easier to say that the West Side just doesn’t care.
If approved, this project will cost $22 Million , and can have impacts on the West Side’s air quality, traffic on our streets and around School 3, and resident access to Front and LaSalle Parks.
The DOT is accepting comments on the project until July 11th through mail at:
